The Weekly Rundown (June 29 – July 6th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.
- VIBE Magazine ceases operations. After 16 years in business the urban music magazine has ceased operations. It’s not too surprising to anyone these days when a magazine or newspaper folds. But that doesn’t mean it’s still disappointing and a continuing sign of how shitty the industry has become.
- R.I.P. QB Steve McNair. In a very sad turn of events former Tennessee Quarterback Steve McNair was killed yesterday in an apparent murder-suicide along with a young woman. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time.
- Michael Jackson returns to the Billboard charts. After the tragic death of the music icon last week, his music sales have dominated billboard charts again. Sadly, death is one hell of a promotion tool.

Don’t fall for that “emo-rap” label my people, it is a bunch of BS. Cage may be a bit out there when it comes to making music (and just living life), but he makes some very deep, passionate music. And if deep and passionate aren’t cutting it for you, get over yourselves because hip-hop doesn’t always have to be what you make it out to be. I know this won’t be for everyone, but he certainly deserves a fair shot. And if you have been listening to Cage for a bit now, I commend you. But enough of that, you need to just download this 5 track EP in preparation for his full-length LP off Def Jux, Depart From Me, coming soon! Oh and we didn’t post it here when it dropped, but definitely check out the video for the single off the LP, “I Never Knew You”, directed by Shia LeBeouf. You can peep that after the skip along with the tracklist and artwork…
