We’ve been fans of Buff1 for quite a while now, so it was a nice surprise (especially when I’m so hungover) to find a new project from the Detroit MC. He was apparently inspired to create this mixtape after hearing Ghostface Killah’s “Holla”, which features the Wu-Tang Clan member spitting over the entirety of Delfonics’ “La-La Means I Love You”. Hence the name of the project, Ghosting. But the mixtape is also used to display the music Buff1 finds himself listening to when he’s not in the booth. And, honestly, it’s refreshing to see a rapper with some good taste as sometimes us hip-hop heads can have shitty taste outside of rap. But not Buff1. On the 12 tracks here, he raps alongside Portishead, Quadron, Shuggie Otis, Mirah, and others. Hope you dig it.

I was perusing some of the better sites out there the other day when I landed on We’ve Got the Jazz, which happens to feature one of the better names in all of the unholy Internets. They had posted a collection of tracks from Detroit artist 14KT’s SoundCloud account that essentially ran the gamut from his work with Danny Brown to his remixes of the likes of PPP and Erykah Badu. Considering how much we dig KT’s stuff here at Potholes, I just had to post it just in case you might have missed it elsewhere. I know it’s a little cumbersome downloading these tracks individually. But come on, free music from 14KT? Deal with the frustration.

Is it just me or has there been a ton of great free music released over the past few days? And it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Here’s the latest mixtape from yet another Potholes favorite, Buff1. He’s got beats from Black Milk, Astronote, and M-Phazes as well as new Crown Royale joints. If you didn’t know, Crown Royale is the pairing up of Buff1 and DJ Rhettmatic — their album should be dropping relatively soon in 2010. We have been following David Dallas for a while now, so it’s only right we hit you with this remix featuring another homie, Buff1. This single will be featured as a bonus cut on David Dallas’ upcoming single, “I Get The Feelin.” It will also appear on Buff’s free project, It’s A 1derful World, which drops this Wednesday! This lineup is insane! Three of my favorite emcees in Buff1, Shawn Jackson and Diz Gibran going in over a Cook Classics heater. It doesn’t get any better than this. Some more information:

Here’s a video of Buff1 and Diz working on a track called “The Best are Full of Love” with Cook Classics.  The song was originally recorded by Shawn Jackson for The New Classics Mixtape, but wasn’t used.  In a recent session, we decided to revive the track with new verses from Buff1 x Diz and release it.  The song will be featured on the new Buff1 project, ‘It’s a 1derful Life‘ as well as Shawn Jackson’s mixtape coming soon.  Video by Greg the Dude.

I totally missed this in the inbox today, and now I am kicking myself in the head. This is some FANTASTIC hip-hop right here. We have been hitting you a lot with fresh cuts this week, but this is some next level business. Buff1, one of my favorite emcees in the game right now, teams up with one of my favorite producers in Damu The Fudgemunk, to create an instant classic.
