It’s been a long time coming for Tanya Morgan, and we have been following their progress almost since the beginning. With a few stellar releases, I feel like they have finally made the breakthrough they deserved with their most recent effort, Brooklynati. And not only was it a fantastic LP, but the marketing scheme behind the album was flawless. If you haven’t noticed some form of promotion to move out to the lovely city of Brooklynati, then I have no idea where you have been. But moving back to the music, I know everyone here at Potholes, and most of you readers would agree that they put out one of 2009′s best hip-hop albums. With that said, I would like to introduce the three-man killing squad called Tanya Morgan, consisting of Ilyas, Donwill and Von Pea. Come sit with us as we discuss the new album, their hometowns, the music scene and much more!
Here is a preview, hit the skip for the full feature…
Reyn: Hey guys, thanks for coming by. How is everything?
Von Pea: Getting better!
Donwill: Chilly chill, homie…
Reyn: Moonlighting was your first real jump to the stage back in 2006. Three years later, you guys are about dropped one of the freshest, most highly anticipated LPs of the year. How have you guys grown as a group and matured as artists?
Von Pea: The album from ’06 was recorded in ’04 and honestly rushed, so I feel lucky that some people call it a personal classic. At the same time, I knew we could do a lot better with a full effort. I felt this way in ’06! So, when it came time to do this one, we started in ’06 and fully finished it up in January ’09. We took our time, and just got better naturally. From the natural progression, the next step was just
criticizing what we had. We weren’t going for perfect, but we did want
to “get it right”.
