Kutmah Stones Throw Podcast 61: DJ Kutmah Throwing Stones

It’s been three weeks since I made my last blog post, and to be honest, it’s taking me a while to get back into the loop. Being isolated in Africa without any real internet access for extended periods of time isn’t always the best thing for someone who normally spends about 25 hours a day online. Anyway, here is the latest Stones Throw Podcast, which I am sure most of you are already aware of. While there have already been 60 incredible Podcasts before this, DJ Kutmh’s Throwing Stones seems to be one of my favorites, and that is saying a lot! You can download the mix and check out the fantastic tracklist after the skip, which features new and old goodness from the likes of Samiyam, Dibiase, Blu, Ras G, Alex B, Count Bass D, Flying Lotus, and much more! But regardless of all those awesome artists, what makes this Podcast so interesting is that it is mixed by DJ Kutmah, one of the acclaimed LA DJs who was recently detained and deported back to his native United Kingdom where he was able to craft this 50-minute musical explosion. You can read more about the detaining here.

Column: Treat Everything Like It’s Your First Project

blu Column: Treat Everything Like Its Your First ProjectAfter so many mediocre debut albums from new rappers in the last three years I started to wonder where’s the magic that got me excited about some of these new artists in the first place? I’m not implying that all these new rappers just became bad overnight. Clearly they’re not without skill because they’ve managed to get my attention. However, lackluster product is being force-fed to us when these artists finally drop their so-called debut LP. While mixtapes continue to serve as the springboard to many a rapper’s career, those early mixtapes are proving to be highly more entertaining than the debut albums these labels are churning out.

Fashawn – “Samsonite Man” feat. Blu

Fashawn Fashawn Samsonite Man feat. Blu

With Exile on the beats, Fashawn dropped a solid album in Boy Meets World last year. I try not to compare that album with Below The Heavens, but I can’t help but do so. Fashawn as an emcee doesn’t hit the spot like Blu did on that epic debut. I know you all don’t agree with me, but that is how I feel. Luckily, the two collaborated on a song on Boy Meets World, and today we get to check the video out for it. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Under The Radar: Johnson&Jonson – Up For Adoption, The Rare Babies [EP]

Like some of my other entries in the Under The Radar series, I’m well aware some of you might have this. But I’m also aware some of you don’t, hence me posting this EP from Johnson&Jonson. I collected these tracks from the duo of Blu and Mainframe some time last year. I wish I could remember when…but I digress. These tracks are also a lot better than those ones that leaked this year, so be thankful for that. Here’s hoping you haven’t heard this six-track EP known as Up For Adoption, The Rare Babies. Otherwise, I just wasted two minutes. Have a lovely Sunday, people. Peace!

Diamond District, Blu, Fashawn, Exile & Trek Life have recently been touring throughout Europe in support of their respective albums. On the Paris leg of the tour they ended the show with a 10 minute freestyle and Exile killing the MPC. [Via LoveOnTheBeat]

Mainframe Blu 300x206 Download: Mainframe & Blu E.Q.E.P. [LP]In celebration of their new company New World Color, Mainframe and Blu (better known as Johnson & Jonson) have been releasing new music on their site all day. The duo is also dropping the “Disco D.Y.N.A.M.I.T.E.” video shortly. The ten new tracks from E.Q.E.P. feature Blu, Gonja Sufi and various artists. The standout track on here is “That Shit” featuring Blu. The other tracks are mostly instrumentals with Blu appearing twice more on this collection of new songs. I’m happy to report the audio quality is a non-issue on these tracks. Give them a spin and let us know what you think.
