rundown copy The Weekly Rundown (July 20 27th)

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Beastie Boys album gets pushed back, MCA diagnosed with cancer. Hopefully MCA makes a full recovery soon, which is expected since the cancer is treatable. There’s way too much death going on of late.
  2. Ma Dukes and J Dilla’s heirs succeed in legal battle. After all the hardships Ma Dukes has gone through with J Dilla’s estate since his passing, it’s great to know the right people will be receiving the money now.
  3. Method Man & Joe Budden squash the beef at Rock The Bells. It’s good to see petty beefs come to an end, but damn, a series of Slaughterhouse and Wu-Tang diss tracks would have been nice. Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Mayer Hawthorne debut album A Strange Arrangement gets a release date and a pre-order. It’s easily the first Stones Throw release we’ve anticipated in a number of months.
  2. Q-Tip is working on a tell-all book called Industry Rules. The new book is supposedly autobiographical and frankly, we can’t wait to read it. “Industry rule #4080, record company people are shady” © Q-Tip
  3. Dave Chappelle puts on a free show in Oregon. Is he ever going to officially come back? We understand the fame and all that was bothering him. But come on, Dave, the comedy world is weak as hell without you. Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome to the weekly rundown where we (soulsupreme and Marty) provide you with our top ten headlines for the week that was.

  1. Michael Jackson passes away at 50. The King Of Pop died of cardiac arrest on Thursday. The whole world is in mourning over the loss of MJ. He is the most important artist of this generation and his music continues to touch lives.
  2. Will.I.Am’s manager punches out Perez Hilton in Toronto after the MMVA’s. You can’t continue to trash people on a daily basis and think that that negativity won’t come to you. We don’t condone violence, but don’t write cheques your ass can’t cash.
  3. The Roots Debut Their New Single “How I Got Over” On ‘Jimmy Fallon’. The new single sounds ridiculously dope. We are really digging the upbeat vibe and obvious James Brown influence. We’re hoping for a few more leaks like The Legendary did for Rising Down because October is way too far away. Read the rest of this entry »

  1. DJ Houseshoes gets his laptop stolen. It’s a pretty sad story because there were a bunch of J Dilla rarities on that laptop. Hopefully he backed up all the music that was stolen.
  2. NBA Playoffs: Lakers/Orlando are in the NBA finals. Nike and David Stern are happy there will be some star power at the NBA Finals. Sorry, LeBron, maybe next year.

A group is defined by two or more individuals with correlative talents committed to a common purpose or specific goal. Hip-hop has definitely given us some legendary groups since it first started. Some of these groups even produced some phenomenal solo artists. It was pretty hard to narrow it down to just ten choices. We based the below list on impact, relevance and catalog otherwise there would too many to name. Who gets your #1 spot?
