Check out what is going on with 6 in his journey to the west coast and much more!

What’s going on out there world? I’m borrowing a laptop to write this entry live from sunny California. It’s 7PM. I been here a couple days and it’s been great. I’ve barely had any time to shower, yuck, I know. But it’s straight grind mode. Gotta keep the hit parade going in the hit factory.

My flight out here could’ve been better because when I got off the plane I had severe ear troubles that are still nipping away at me still. The sunshine and warm weather kept my spirits up though. Soon as I landed we headed to the studio to mix an Outasight record. We had engineer extraodinaire Warren Riker mixing. His credits include The Fugees, Wyclef, Lauryn Hill, Santana, the list is endless. Me and my closest constinuents have always pondered over the years if there really were those amazing engineers out there that make your stuff sound incredible. I can now say it’s true.

Got to meet up wit some talented cats from out here. Tunji brought me to the studio. Lotta cats up in there. Tunji, TiRon, El Prez, Dale Danja, Diz Gibran, Noah King, a whole bunch of cats. And if you’re wondering, YES, there was a massive song that was recorded. Stay tuned.

We all hit up J’Davey’s house party, and it was dope. Lotta people, dope backyard, byob with the Henny flowing. Been in the lab with Cook Classics a whole lot since I been out here. We’re trying to come up with a production duo name, all I’ll say is that the stuff we’re making is incredible.

I was supposed to leave today, but I’m going to stay here for a couple more days. Tomorrow I’m in the studio mixing another Outasight banger with Warren Riker, as well as doing some promo and press during the day. Going to have a couple video promo pieces from this trip. Gonna link up with the artists out here again, and I believe there’ll be a U-N-I, 6th Sense, Ro Blvd session before this trip is up as well.

Quick shout to Emilio Sparks, whom I had the pleasure of being on his radio show last week before I came out here to Cali.

Till next time world.

Here 6 talks about whats going on in his busy life as an artist and much more!

What’s going on out there world? It’s 4:25 AM now. I really need to go to bed.

I did a song with Mickey Factz today. Me on the beat. Him on the rhymes. And someone else on the hook. Stay tuned.

Did a radio interview tonight with the lovely Cybille from Beauty and the Beatbox. Tomorrow I sit down with Emilio Sparks, the “Charlie Rose of Hip-Hop.” I’m looking forward to the conversation we have. Stay tuned.

Jet Audio’s album, “Stand Alone Complex” is coming along well. Before he came over to mix with me, me and Wildabeast did a new Both Nice track where we flip SV’s “Raise It Up.” Jet Audio’s song with Naledge from Kidz in Da Hall is serious. Ya’ll gonna love it. You’re also gonna love the song Kidz in Da Hall did with Reebok. They had the video shoot on Sunday, and shouts to everyone that was there chilling. Shouts to Jacques & Drea too. Stay tuned.

Amidst the hectic-ness of tomorrow, I gotta manage to pack and hit the barbershop. I’m hittin the west coast on Weds. Got a lot of work to do on Outasight’s album out there, and I’m also trying to pack in as much other work as I can while I’m out there. You know I’ll have my MP and my HD with me. We’re gonna be in the studio mixing with Warren Riker (google him!) Once you google him and realize what’s going on, you might wanna check out the live feed of us mixing straight from the studio. Not too shabby heh?

As of today, I have to complete 9 projects before the end of March. 3 of those have to be finished before SXSW. And I’m not bullshitting you either. Seriously. Really.

Here is the 3rd installment of 6th Sense: The Quiny Cohen Diaries… Talks about his experience at the Outasight shot and more. Enjoy!

What’s going on out there world? It’s 3:30 AM and I just got in from rockin Blender Theater with my dude Outasight. When we pulled up to the venue and saw his name on the marquis we were taken aback a little bit, but it was joyous. Loj, Fresh Daily and the AOK crew, and Oddisee all killed it as well. Shouts to everyone that came out. I was on stage holding down all the music. I had my MPC up there, and I had the Motif up there as well, keeping things fresh. We had my homegirls Meli and Iris singing backup so lovely. Overall, it was a great set. It wasn’t hard for me whatsoever to take a backseat to Outasight’s performance because I had a great time supplying the music and it was an awesome show. The best part was when the fire alarm went off and cut the power off! I thought I was back in high school when cats would pull the fire alarm to get out of class early!

Between sound check and showtime I ran over to check my man Sam at iHipHop.com to do a quick interview where we chopped it up about the game and the importance of good production. Be on the lookout for that.

NBA All-Star weekend was cool. It was a nice change of scenery to see some defense being played during the game. Maybe some of ya’ll got wind of the “Where Amazing Happens” joint I produced for Donny Goines. It sampled those pianos from the NBA commercials. All I have to say is Donny Goines is the hardest working dude in hip-hop… period. I thought I worked hard, but this man was in the studio with me at 10:30 AM! I mean, who else you know has that grind and dedication?

This weekend The Kid Daytona came through with Harlem’s Cash and Rah from VladTV. You can look for that footage to pop up soon, with us doing what we do. We had plans to do other things that night, but I played Daytona these drums I had for over a year. I added crazy keys to it on the spot, and this joint is going to be a PROBLEM! Ya’ll need to watch out for Harlem’s Cash too, his shit is really dope. I gotta lay a verse down for him tomorrow for his mixtape.

Truthfully, I’ve been so busy lately it feels like I have no control over what it is I do. I don’t have a scheduler or anything, but it just feels to me like god naturally schedules my work. I don’t know if it sounds conceited, but it’s not. This year has started off with a whirlwind, and I don’t think it’s gonna stop. Till next week’s diary entry… peace out!! Goodnight!

Second edition of 6th Sense: The Quincy Cohen Diaries just in. Check out what 6th had to say about the special night at Rare Form’s Donuts are Forever 3 party and more. Here is a preview, hit the picture or the skip for the full diary entry…

What’s going on out there world? It’s 2AM again. I am exhausted. Just got back from a big studio helping Outasight mix a record for his album. I watched the Grammy’s tonight. I thought they were good. I was happy to see a Viva La Hova performance. Props to Mick Boogie, as well as seeing Adele take home Best New Artist. Not bad, not bad at all.
Earlier today I was with Outasight downtown rehearsing for his Blender Theater show on the 16th. We ran through all the songs with the background singers, who are my homegirls Melissa Providence and Iris.

Last night I was out in Brooklyn at Rare Form’s Donuts are Forever 3 party. Last year I spontaneously brought my camera out and captured the vibe of the evening and the people that were there. So, DeePhunk and the Rare Form crew made sure I brought my camera with me this year. I think I got some good stuff, and I’ll be throwing up a VIMEO of the evening in the next day or so. Granted it’s not hard to spin a Dilla set, but my man DJ Parler KILLED it. There was a lot of great people out. I got to talk to Saddiq and Wajeed of PPP briefly. Wajeed put it best, “it’s bittersweet.” At one point in the night I got really choked up because Dilla meant so much to me as a musician and it just got overwhelming hearing his incredible music knowing he’s no longer with us. Geology had on a baseball jersey style tee with Yancey on the back and the number 6! I SOOOO wanted that shirt.

This week is sure to be hectic as always as I got too many things to do and not enough time. I’ll be putting together my plans to be out in LA for a week and change. Looking forward to getting up with all my LA comrades. I’m too tired to write any more right now, and I can’t really think. Peace and love to all,

Today we are proud to welcome hip-hop artist, 6th Sense to the Potholes In My Blog family. This is the first installment of a weekly series that 6th will be bringing our site called 6th Sense: The Quincy Cohen Diaries (Ep. 1). Hit the skip to check out what is going on in 6th’s life and an update on his musical career. Also be sure to check out his It’s A 6th Sense Beat Yo!! mixtape dropping tomorrow here on Potholes In My Blog. I hope you all enjoy!

Here is a preview, hit the skip for the full entry…

What’s going on out there world? Writing a blog/journal/diary kind of thing is something I should have been doing a long time ago, but hey, better late than never right? I have to thank Potholes In My Blog for giving me the avenue to do this.

It’s 2 AM right now and I’m in the process of uploading an episode of NothergroundTV to VIMEO. The episode is a recap of the whole month of January. Looking back, I have to say 2009 was kicked off something proper. I don’t want to go on and on in detail about what the video is, you guys can just watch it for yourself. You’ll see footage from studio sessions, video shoots, shows, and much more.

Once that’s done uploading I gotta finish the mix on this The Kid Daytona record I produced called “The Minimum.” We got the lovely Tiara Wiles (shouts to MicSean) to sing on the hook on top of my vocoder. No, I am not using Auto-Tune, I’m using a real vocoder. The record is real dope. The Kid Daytona is real dope. I’m overseeing a number of projects he’s working on, doing a lot of production and mixing and what have you. You guys’ll prolly get to hear the record, well, today (hopefully). The Kid Daytona rolls with the one and only Cipha Sounds, and I’m hearing that ya’ll should be able to see some video of Cipha holding it down.

Besides working with The Kid Daytona I’ve been working a lot with Outasight. He’s real dope too. He’s got an album coming out in June called “From Here To Eternity” and you can find me holding down the bulk of the album’s production. You might have seen his video “Good Evening” on your TV. Whether you have or you haven’t, you gotta come out to the Blender Theater on Feb 16th here in New York. He’ll be performing as well as Fresh Daily and Oddisee. You can expect me to be controlling the sound for Outasight’s performance. It should be real extravagant and splendifferous.

A lot of folks have been asking me “Yo, what’s up with the Both Nice album?” The answer is, that we’re letting it chill for a while, and we’re going to wait till the time is right. In the meanwhile though, Wildabeast is going to be dropping an exclusive song every week with IllRoots.com as part of their K.I.D.S. campaign. You know you’ll be able to peep those songs here at Potholes as well of course. Big shouts to everyone who showed love on the Arcade Fly Remix, especially those involved like Buff1, Donny Goines, Fashawn, and U-N-I. U-N-I dropped an ill mixtape with my man Mick Boogie, make sure ya’ll download that, I’m on 3 tracks. Speaking of Mick Boogie and Terry Urban, they dropped a mixtape in honor of this year’s Grammy awards. Make sure ya’ll check me out on that as well.

The biggest thing of all though is that I’m dropping an instrumental CD this week called “It’s A 6th Sense Beat Yo!!” It’s a real special project for me, and I think ya’ll will really enjoy it. Whether you freestyle cipher in ya bedroom, or you do mixtapes, blends, or you just like to chill to instrumentals, you’ll definitely enjoy the CD. Shouts to everyone out there that’s been showing love to the project and it hasn’t even dropped yet! A super big shout out thanks goes to Fernando Leon for creating the amazing artwork. Big shouts to Kraff Swagger for helping me mix the CD, and big shouts to Alice Wonderland for throwing me a party this Wednesday. The party is gonna be a lot of fun and I can’t wait to chill and have a good time with everyone. We’re gonna be playing some new exclusives of course!

All right, I gotta wrap this up (wrap it up b!) because I definitely made this entry real long winded, but hey, it’s the first entry so I had a lot to talk about! I’m looking forward to doing these each week. This one might have been a little boring, but I promise the forthcoming entries will be exciting and interesting. Signing off for Notherground Music, it’s 6th Sense. And remember… I ain’t trying to be somebody, I’m trying to do something.

Peace,
6
