But we also agree that he doesn’t quite have the best voice R&B has to offer. Yes. So what happens when you take the producer behind the original Weeknd sound, Jeremy Rose (Zodiac), and you team him up with a singer of the highest caliber in Jesse Boykins III? Well, that would be “Come”, one of the most sensual songs you are ever going to hear. Zodiac’s self-titled EP, where this track will land, is due out Sept. 24 via Vase. [via]

In other news, it appears Jeremy Rose and Abel Tesfaye have squashed their beef. Here is a statement from management we snagged from Pitchfork:

“Fueled by a common vision they had about RnB and music in general, Jeremy and Abel worked closely for a short time about two years ago,” Rose’s rep wrote. “Miscommunication between both artists is currently in the final stages of being worked out by their respective management teams.”

This past March, Toronto based R&B artist Abel Tesfaye and producers Doc McKinney and Illangelo self-released House of Balloons under the moniker “The Weeknd”. It was well received, and the genre bending hype seemed substantiated in that elements of future garage, R&B, pop, soul, and minimalist electronic music were seamlessly blended making for a hi-fi aural experience.

The Weeknd’s upcoming album, Thursday, is posed for release sometime this summer, and is the second installment in a trilogy of albums inspired by different seasons. “The Birds (Part 1)” is presumably the first release from the aforementioned album and it’s an upbeat yet minimal tune, with a dizzying synth swirl and militaristic beat fleshing out the sonic landscape. Of course, Tesfaye’s vocals take center stage, and it’s tough to avoid cliche when describing his siren-like range and timbre.

You can follow The Weeknd via twitter here and stay up to date with info. on upcoming releases. With two more albums on the supposed docket before 2012 hits, Tesfaye will be a busy man.
