Just when you thought they were done for the year, those Michigan area musicians drop yet another incredible project on us. This time around, singer AB fills a 17 track mixtape with some of the brightest neo-soul and hardest hitting hip-hop of the year. As if that weren’t enough, the features on here add an extra layer of dopeness to this project. Guests include 14KT, Black Milk, Elzhi, T3, Phat Kat, Eric Roberson, and Bishop Lamont. Check it out and leave us your thoughts.
Yeah Yeah, I am late on this… Missed the boat until the homie DJ Graffiti sent over the details along with a fresh mini-mix he did for Ro Spit. This is some raw Detroit hop-hop though, and I urge you all to give it a spin. Along with Ro’s fine spitting, we also get a ton of excellent features and production appearances from cats like Big Tone, Astronote, 14KT, Bun B, Marv Won and many more. Give it a spin and let us know what you think…
I went to the Mayer Hawthorne show this past Sunday in Toronto. Buff1, 14KT and MymanHenri were the opening acts for a sold out engagement at the Drake Hotel. MymanHenri, who’s another well-respected DJ opened things up with a twenty-five minute set that included some Jay Dee remixes and some down-tempo funk. It was a smaller venue at the Drake and the crowd was somewhere between hipster and hip-hop heads. Read the rest of this entry »
The homie 14KT has been hard at work, grinding away some of the freshest hip-hop production out there. But as we wait for more new releases from the man, he drops off this Dilla-inspired free album, which he made shortly after the passing of the great producer. A bunch of the tracks have leaked around the internet over the past week or so, but today you get to hear the whole thing. A fantastic instrumental tribute to one of the greatest producers to ever do it, showing how much he really influenced the entire hip-hop community. Check it out and share your thoughts… [Via A-Side]
Mayer Hawthorne releases video for “Maybe So, Maybe No”. A nice breezy summer video for the second single from the forthcoming album A Strange Arrangement dropping September 8th on Stones Throw records. Check out cameos from House Shoes, Rob Dyrdek, and more.
14KT is releasing an album next Tuesday of Dilla-donut inspired beats he put together right after the legendary producer passed away, but kept locked away until now. Look out for Nowalataz dropping next week. Here are two new joints; one from the forthcoming project and a bonus track “Going Fine”. Props to TSS

It seems like label-mates, 14KT and Buff1 have been making a big push on the internet lately. They hit us with the video for “Real Appeal” only a few days ago, and they are back again with this banger of a leak. You already know enough about how much I dig the A-Side movement, Buff is a beast on the mic and KT shows his ability to change up his sound time and time again, especially on this track. Check it out and let us know what you think! (props to nahright)
Brand new video coming from the homie Buff1, produced by another homie 14KT, and featuring the soulful AB on the hook. It’s great to see Buff continue to push his latest album, There’s Only One, which came out actually quite a while ago. And continuing on, I must comment on the freshness of this video. The black and white is a great touch as Buff, KT and AB do there thing in the fancy getup. Oh yeah, and I must mention the sexy chicas that run rampant in the video. Don’t miss out!
Vandalyzm just sent over his 2008 album, Megatron Majorz, if you had missed it the first time around. It’s good to see some upcoming emcees like Vandal make big moves by putting out some fresh music like this, and it should be interesting to see what he does in the near future (double LP this summer!). Right from the intro, Vandalyzm let’s you know that he is going to hit you over and over again during this 80 minute lyrical adventure, hitting you time and time again with punch lines and witty wordplay. The album features some high-energy production from cats like Khrysis, Swiff D, Flying Lotus, 14KT, Black Spade, and more. Vandalyzm produces a good share of the tracks on the record as well. Check it out and let us know what you think…
