What an absolutely fantastic surprise! Just a few days ago I was expressing my dismay with Madlib and his overbearing Madlib Medicine Show series, and now we are bothered with an announcement of Madlib’s latest project, yet another Madlib Medicine Show. Just like the fantastic Now series that comes around every Christmas season to fill our ears with the latest and greatest in mainstream music, it seems that there will never be an end to Madlib Medicine Show. As we approach the release of number eleven in the dreadfully boring series of mediocre music, I wonder if there is any hope for what seemed to be one of the best producers in hip-hop only a year or two ago. Sorry if I am being a bit harsh here, but you have to agree with me at least a little, I want to hear some exciting, innovative, top-notch production from Madlib again.
With that said, you now must all be asking why in the hell am I posting a song from Madlib if I think all of his music sucks. Even though Medicine Show is a terribly appropriate name for a series of music that demands a full bottle of Tylenol pain relievers after every listen, I still believe somewhere deep down in my heart that Madlib is actually a good musician. I mean, after all, he is the mastermind behind such hip-hop classics as Madvillain, the Beat Konducta series, Shades of Blue, and much much more. I must say, this latest Medicine Show looks a bit promising, as it features some interesting collaborations with the likes of Guilty Simpson, AG, Strong Arm Steady, Oh No, and more. This post here features Madlib and Karriem Riggins forming their superb group, Supreme Team, and debuting a new track, “Interview #4080”, which will be featured on #11: Low Budget High Fi Music. 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 were all very dope and the other 3 were good too…i have a sneaking feeling that david here was angry and mad at the idea of the medicine show from jump and that has turned into a self fulfilling prophecy of jealousy and hate…poor guy…
In my opinion, the Medicine Shows 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 were all pretty damn good, if not at least entertaining.
