Sunless ’97 – “Azul”

This is the first time I am hearing of Sunless ’97, a three-piece outfit that has me all sorts of exciting about their latest single, “Azul”. The beat creeps in slowly, like a timid toddler at their first day of school. But “Azul” builds up briskly as guitars, saxophones, and other instruments are thrown in the mix. Alice Davies then kicks in with looping vocals, compldmented shortly thereafter by the male singing of Ed Eke. Yeah, there is a lot going on by the time this is over, showcasing at an early stage how promising this trio is. The summer-ready “Azul” will be paired with “Body Weather” (also streamable below) as a double A-side release on June 15 via Not Even.
