MTSYD: The Revenge Of The African Booty Scratcher – Well$’ latest offering, and undoubtedly the most important of his young career – comes at a time in hip-hop where depth is valued and a blatant care for the craft of rap does not go unappreciated. Well$ conveys dedication, and I respect him highly because of that.
Finally released in full after a preceding line of singles and visuals brewed modest, well-deserved hype, this project still managed to exceed my expectations. Vocally, Well$ lies low; his uniquely spoken words are deep on the scale, and those words often breathe their own life. Magically, then, his pronounced lyrics live within the beat – they seethe from deep within the project’s cohesive landscape, one of consistent wonderment and beauty. Though certain bumps act as abrasions on an otherwise smooth road, Well$’ effort is commendable and worthy of praise.
