Scallops Hotel is a new side project from Potholes favorite Milo, who’s showcasing both his rap and production talents on its debut release, poplar grove. The EP also features beats from Lee Bannon, Busdriver, Iglooghost, ELOS, and Jincallo, all of whom match the creaky, experimental feel of this release. “bergamot gamut” is perhaps the most Milo-ish listen of the bunch, if only because he’s not quite as bass-y with his vocal delivery.
Elsewhere he sounds like he’s got his head down, contemplating his thoughts as they dribble out of his mouth. It’s a lot to take in, but that’s what I first loved about his music. You need to listen to this multiple times to digest it—and you’ll be happy that you did.
