When Wolf Parade‘s Dan Boeckner & wife Alexei Perry got hitched, I’m not sure they envisioned Handsome Furs. But, if they did, hopefully Sound Kapital mimics their relationship and its future. With a signature Sub Pop sound: thumping, pulsing keys tapped out by Perry and the catchy, not-too-scruff vocals from Boeckner, it seems a perfect match. To SPIN, Boeckner says about Wolf Parade, “We’re not doing anything for the foreseeable future. We made three records I’m happy with. I think people just want to do different things.” “When I Get Back” is an infectious party anthem, ready for sloppy moshers and the like. “Memories of the Future” strolls along like a satellite from outer space, grounded only by the clarity of Boeckner’s voice. While Wolf Parade’s future hangs in the balance, Handsome Furs looks to forge a new, lasting legacy. That is, unless divorce papers ruin this marriage of music.
