You know those projects you stumble upon that you know someone else will enjoy, though you can’t necessarily narrow down exactly why? That’s how I’m feeling about Grape God’s Time Travel EP. Said to be recorded 20 years in the future (har har), it’s a brief affair at a mere five tracks. But within that handful of beyond-blunted cuts is a depth only few will be able to comprehend and traverse.
Truth be told, I’ve listened to this at full attention and I’m still not totally sure what the Grape God’s talking about. A fellow Portland, Ore. musician who put me onto Time Travel said it’s filled with quadruple entendres (what up, Hov?), so to say this one needs proper time to marinate would be an understatement.
In other words, you need to listen to this if you like weird, difficult-but-rewarding music. It’s worth it. Promise.
