A saddening evening beneath the stars quickly transitions into a night lost among Singapore’s skyscrapers and bustling towns on Reid’s latest single, titled after that very Republic. The Irish instrumental architect does not pummel your ears with overpowering, all-encompassing soundscapes, instead letting a collection of subtleties build something more significant. The comforting hum of vinyl crackles like kindling, bringing forth a nostalgic mood magnified by the pop-bounce exuberance of bubbling drum accents, bells and piano notes.
Sometimes elegiac but consistently elegant, we’re curious to see how Reid follows this effort. Stream “Singapore” below and look out for Reid’s forthcoming, six-track project, Fractures.
