The Ol’ Soul EP is the new release from Alpoko Don, an MC so gritty and intriguing that he doesn’t need your fancy instrumentals. That’s right: this entire project is essentially delivered a cappella aside from the “beat” that’s essentially Don and/or his friends banging on a table to provide the boom and the bap. Dave and I just listened to this and he likened it to Mystikal meets Willis Earl Beal, a fitting description given Don’s enthusiasm, incredibly lo-fi sound, and unique perspective.
