Stephen Farris comes from the land of Styrofoam cup ubiquity but instead of slab rap he brings an interesting combination of chillwave, hip-hop, ’80s electro and funk. On his album Cosmic Sound II it’s easy to believe you’ve got him figured out as an artist when the first song sounds like true-to-form chillwave (weird sample, mellow ambient sound) but the next immediately hits you with a sound that shouldn’t be foreign to any fans of Dam-Funk. The album is stylistically schizophrenic but it’s not a flaw, and it’s better than being boring.
