Over the past few days, I’ve had the utmost pleasure of corresponding with Steel Tipped Dove, the guy who I formerly knew as one of the producers for Das Racist and the Greedhead gang. After a few short chats I realized that he is much more than a hip-hop producer, but he is in fact a very worldly and abstract beatsmith, a man who can purge the sounds of the unknown to create intelligent sound. One listen to “Under the Jaguar Sun”—the percussion loving, synth-happy, Buddy Wakefield-inspired track—and you’ll see that I’m not making this stuff up.
On behalf of Potholes in My Blog, I’m very pleased to premiere “Under the Jaguar Sun”. Check out Steel Tipped Dove’s extensive Bandcamp for more of his production as well as collaborations from many great rappers. Follow him on Twitter @steeltippeddove to stay updated on the release of his next EP Nothing Touches the Ground Here.
