Operating under the downtempo-loving alias of Simbrula Nox, Starchild landed on our roundup of 2012’s best instrumental albums with Lying Floaters. But throughout 2013, we can expect him to embrace his sample-flipping ways as Starchild. He aims to release a total of 12 new beat tapes this year, starting this month with Astro Fox. In addition to having some video game-y artwork, the project boasts doses of funk, jazz, and boom-bap with some nice track titles: “Hairy Chest”, “Prince Says Bye”, and “Halle Boo Yah”.
