Spotify Launches Website To Explain Artist Royalty System

spotify-greenLike other streaming services, Spotify is often the whipping boy of certain artists who feel that the company could be doing more for smaller, less-established acts. And after going on the record to address these criticisms that more often than not have to do with Spotify’s royalty system, they have launched a website that breaks it down for all to see. It’s called Spotify Explained and gets into detail about how artists get paid, where Spotify makes money, specific payment figures, and much more.

While I really do think you should head over to the actual site to check it out for yourself, I’ve taken a screenshot of some of the charts provided by Spotify to give you a feel for what they’re presenting. Below, you can see two graphs that showcase how certain acts are paid on a monthly basis.

In this case it was this past July and instead of giving the actual acts’ names, Spotify used descriptive terms instead. They also give you an idea of what artists would make if the service had 40 million paid subscribers. You can click through to make the photos bigger.
