Snoop Dogg wanted to make a reggae album, which Major Lazer was more than happy to get involved with. While this is indeed a Snoop Lion song, it is hard to tell exactly how big of a role he played in the creative vision. All of the songs that have been released so far from the Lion have been well done, but I don’t much of the credit can actually be given to Snoop. That is because he has such a great cast behind him, starting with Diplo and other producers and boiling all the way down to the guest vocalists. As is the case with “Lighters Up”, which showcases Mavado and Popcaan much more than Snoop.
This song itself is a bit corny, but it turns out to be a pretty well executed piece of music. For what it is, we see this project sitting well with a lot of people looking for fun summer tunes. It just kind of sucks that this is all materializing in the middle of winter. Anyway, stream Snoop’s new single below and let us know what you think. I anticipate a lot of hatred. This will find its way on Reincarnated.

Is Snoop even on this?
The biggest issue with what your talking about seemed to be the fact that Snoop doesn’t really sing much. I mean, he definitely doesn’t have the singing chops that most reggae/dancehall artist (like the one’s featured here)…thus they gotta throw some bullshit effect on his voice. It’s just not in his pocket. This beat is definitely the best so far we’ve heard though. Super weird to hear Popcaan and Movado over it. They seem almost unsure how to approach it.
Honestly… i’m feeling this tune. Dig the minimal arrangement.
