Video: Snoop Dogg Is “Tired Of Rap”

Over recent years we have seen many of rap’s legends age and struggle with maintaining relevancy. While their intentions are often admirable, they just can’t seem to keep up with the hungry young guns of the Internet. One route a veteran MC might take is reinvention, or, in Snoop Dogg’s eyes, “reincarnation.” That is exactly what the west coast gangster rapper plans on doing, as he takes on the new role of Snoop Lion. Yes, Snoop Lion the reggae star.

Yeah, this seems like a pretty easy target. But instead of making a couple of cheap jokes, let’s look on the bright side here. Snoop has teamed up with one of the hottest producers right now, Diplo, who has been known to crank out some heavy dub bangers. Not only that, but Snoop openly admits that he is “tired of rap” in a new teaser to an upcoming documentary on Snoop Dogg’s attempt at reinventing his artistic approach. You can check that out below. He has been more of a joke than anything else of late, but with all that said, this might actually be the musical contribution we have all been waiting for but never really expected to arrive.

Is this the end of Snoop Dogg as we know it?

Could other aging rappers follow suit?

Weigh in below in the comments section, and let us know what you think about Snoop Lion’s latest direction.

I think Snoop Dogg’s doin right, he’s simply out of the age where you be a Gangsta, look at him, he has a wife and Kids!

Ich like it, because it fits more to Snoop. He was never the one i was scared of, he was more the funny one, so let him express with music he feels, but i think haters gonna hate 🙁

Snoop just became Rasta…that’s all. He took Nazarite vows. I don’t see the big deal. Dancehall stars do this and it doesn’t have the same hoopla for some reason. The man is in his 40s, a star for a long time and still very good at his craft. Let him find new ways to ascend is all I can say.
