When we shared Chicago rapper Jarred A.G.‘s latest track, “So I Go“, at the end of August, I noted the ill production by Smoko Ono. With good reason, because Ono’s beat was a perfect complement to A.G. With that in mind, I’m not surprised by the fact that the producer’s new track, “Pass The Flame”, makes me want to fight someone. Of course, A.G.’s rhymes along with those of fellow Windy City rappers Saba and Sterling Hayes don’t hurt, but goddamn is that a tough loop. There’s something about the simplicity here that just really, really works. “This beat is so hard it’s gonna shatter your spine,” indeed.
