Skrillex Does Best Burial Impression on “Leaving”, Listeners Freak Out

leavingIn case you haven’t heard yet, Skrillex has released a new song, “Leaving”, that completely does away with everything you have come to expect from the DROPTHEBASS producer. He’s essentially doing his best Burial impression here, which leaves some listeners angry, sad, and confused. There are, of course, some who love it and just want us all to discuss the song itself and not which genre it falls into. But this is the Internet, where everyone, for better or for worse, has a voice.

You can stream the song and read some of the more absurd YouTube comments I read below.

Yeah, it’s part of a discussion, “Le Magnifique”

^^^ the fact that people are busy having these thoughts: “it shouldn’t even be on this site i think,” then posting them on the internet instead of just running their own site is a large part of what’s wrong with humans.

i do remember that whole instant where Skrillex posted an Aphex Twin song (where he claimed it was his favorite or something like that) and all the comments were classic 🙂

He dipped his toes into a new genre so what at least he tried? Good for him as an artist if he wants to move around. Plus, Burial didn’t invent the genre for shit’s sake, it’s anyone’s prerogative to try it out for themselves.

That being said, the track is not good. He is still using that thing he does with the vocals where they sound so edited and autotuned and they move up-up-up to the normal vocals. Very awkward and forced all around.

The guy is making what he wants. If you don’t like it just stop listening. We need to understand that we DON’T own the artist.

So are people mad that they can’t slam dance/have seizures to this? Honestly, I think it’s pretty chilled. I don’t listen to most of his other stuff, but I certainly don’t hate this.

I love Burial, so I’m not gonna get pissy about Skrillex doing music indicative of that style. This is still way too clean to actually be a Burial track, and I don’t think it comes even remotely close to Archangel, but it’s a damn fine track. I’d rather this over his previous works any day.

Ripoff or not, this may be the only Skrillex song I’ve made it all the way through. So, that’s something.

I’m not irritated like I normally am when I hear his tracks, this just confuses me more than anything.

Should have changed his alias temporarily for this one I think.

I mean, niggas been knew Skrillex was biting off of London’s EDM scene since his American dubstep inception, so this should be no surprise. I actually prefer the “Archangel” song over this, subjectively speaking.
