If I was making a living from crafting rap beats I’d look to collaborate with everyone with a decent name. When producers join forces you can do the J Dilla + Madlib = Jaylib thing or you can come up with something entirely new, like Alchemist and Oh No’s group name, Gangrene. For Sir Froderick and Ohbliv they chose the former strategy and came up with Sir-Bliv.
But how does the music sound? Well, from the snippets it sounds very good, as you’d expect from a release Ohbliv’s name is attached to. While I didn’t know of Sir Froderick until this release I think I can tell what tracks on here are his: the one’s that don’t sound like Ohbliv. There’s pitched down guitar twangs, jumbled samples that sound like something Madlib would use as an interlude and soul singers voices getting dissected. The entire Wholly Rollers LP has 29 tracks and it’s up on bandcamp for the price of $5. [via]
