Shocking Pinks – “Ten Years”

shocking pinks Shocking Pinks Ten YearsThe mysterious Christchurch, New Zealand native Nick Harte, most known as the brainchild behind Shocking Pinks, seemed to disappear after the band’s album with DFA Records was released in 2007.  The self-titled debut– a collection of remastered songs from earlier releases all written and performed by Harte– was well-received by critics and noise pop enthusiasts the world over.

The band’s success seemed natural. Harte had reportedly begun playing piano at age six, was being compared to Brian Wilson by the time he was thirteen, and had been floating in and out of different band roles including drummer for Sub Pop darlings The Brunettes until Shocking Pinks caught the attention of DFA in 2004. Then came their big debut with choice remixes from the likes of Deerhunter and Eluvium. Then nothing, until a new MP3 randomly surfaced on the Rose Quartz blog this week.  According to the source, Harte is sitting on hundreds of these unheard Liquid-Liquid-by-way-of-shoegaze tracks. What is he waiting for? Falling off the face of the earth is so ’00′s… *side eyes The Avalaches*. xo
