We’ve expressed our enthusiasm about Shigeto here at Potholes multiple times, and this week, Shigeto’s much-anticipated full-length debut, Full Circle, came out on Ghostly International. In celebration, we’re bringing you a track from the album called “Brown Eyed Girl” (not to be confused with the Van Morrison standard). It’s more of what we’ve come to expect from Shigeto: dreamy, spacious atmospherics, a little bit of live instrumentation (especially percussion) and plenty of pew-pew effects that conjure images of ’60s Jetsons kitsch and Philip K. Dick-imagined futures. Despite any stylistic zig-zagging or evidence of musical ADD, Shigeto is well-intentioned, and “Brown Eyed Girl” comes together cohesively. The hummable “melodies” even make you a little wistful, leaving you to wonder if there’s a connection between the song’s sweetness and its lovelorn title.

I played through his EP the other night. It was great stuff.
