Ultra-talented young producer Shag is back this week with Revolution, a free new album brought to us by Cult Classic Records. This Shag, rather prolific, is improving by leaps and bounds with each release- Revolution finds him moving well beyond expertly crafted but undeniably Dilla-worshipping hip-hop beats and exploring a wider palette of sounds and feelings.
The cello samples on the breathtaking “Still Here”, the wailing guitars on “Desirable”, the tonal bubble-bath chimes on “What It’s Worth” and the zero-gravity keyboard groove on “Moonwalk” all warrant mention as being great sound choices, giving Revolution the depth and originality that cynics could claim are lacking in the instrumental scene. Shag is still young, but you’d never know it listening to Revolution (his third killer release this year), and the kid is clearly on track to make major moves for some time to come. Cop Revolution now so you can say you were in on it before your friends.
