Good lord, folks. This new EP from Self Scientific — the duo of DJ Khalil and Chace Infinite — might be one of my favorite projects of the year thus far. Chace and his guests, PIMB faves like Big K.R.I.T and Freddie Gibbs, deliver great verses throughout Trials of the Blackhearted, from blue-collar tales to fuck-the-police anthems. And these tracks wouldn’t be quite as effective without the production work of DJ Khalil, who is on-point as usual.
