Rick Rubin Hints at a Second ‘Yeezus’ Album From Kanye West

kanye west rick rubin Rick Rubin Hints at a Second Yeezus Album From Kanye WestAre you not feeling Kanye West’s new album, Yeezus? Well, you might be frustrated to learn that the Chicago native apparently has enough material ready to drop a similar project. At least, that’s what Yeezus executive producer/living legend Rick Rubin told The Daily Beast. During a conversation about the album and what it was like coming into it at the last minute, Rubin reveals that the track listing got cut from 16 to 10. He also noted that he told West that “maybe this is just the first half,” something Rubin considers a breakthrough during their recording process.

You can read the quotes in question below and read the full thing here.

When he came to you with the record, did you have a sense of what needed to be done?

Initially, he thought there were going to be 16 songs on the album. But that first day, before he even asked me to work on it, I said, “Maybe you should make it more concise. Maybe this is two albums. Maybe this is just the first half.” That was one of the first breakthroughs. Kanye was like, “That’s what I came here today to hear! It could be 10 songs!”

So there might be another Yeezus in the pipeline?

Might be.

good. i feel like Kanye is often too ready to try his next big thing, instead of really honing in on his ideas. i feel like there’s a masterpiece in yeezus somewhere, he just needs to chip away at it. putting out only 10 tracks after a left turn like this is only dipping his toes in the water. its an appetizer.

The reaction to this album is what’s confusing me a shit ton. Why is everyone freaking out that there’s no radio single when Bound 2 is loved by literally everyone I know? Why does anyone give a fuck in the first place? Radio is dying (Thank fucking god) and he’s nowhere near the first to see that. The music videos will come but they probably won’t be played on MTV since its not 12 year old friendly. People are freaking out and spewing moronic knee-jerk reactions because he put something out that wasn’t expected. This is literally the first Kanye album I’ve liked. (There are always good songs but I usually can’t do front to back)
PF and your review hit it pretty much right on the head, but people still act like retards. I dont get it.

Im intrigued, I think the pitchfork article talked about how a bunch of tracks got cut just because they didnt fit the industrial EDM-y vibe of Yeezus. Hopefully that means there is a hard drive of soul sample bangers lost somewhere in North Wests diaper bag.
