The folks over at Rdio appear to have quite the artist incentive on their hands. In a newly released statement from founder Janus Friis—who also had a hand in Kazaa and Skype—it’s been revealed that the streaming music service will pay musicians $10 per fan.
Now, while that might seem like an instant WIN! for artists at large, there is a bit of catch. That $10 will only land in their pockets if said fan subscribes to Rdio through an artists’ social media. Say, for example, your favorite rapper—let’s say Danny Brown—tweets out a link for you to get a Rdio subscription. Well, if you sign up through that referral link, then the Detroit spitter will in turn get some cash.
Not bad, right? Snoop Dogg thinks so, too, and said the following:
“I love that any new artist can take advantage of this program,” Snoop said in a statement. “I’m a fan of Rdio already, and it’s cool to see them supporting artists like this.”
Could this be the future of streaming music services in terms of keeping musicians happy? We’ll see. Nice work, Rdio. [via]

Sounds like a cool option
