Raury Returns With “Cigarette Song”

Ascending Atlanta talent Raury flew right under our radar—a humbling truth we are admittedly not proud of. The teenager’s otherworldly single, “God’s Whisper,” sets us free each and every listen; including it in our “Best Songs of 2014 (So Far)” list only felt just. Journeying through the minds of youthful hopefuls and creatives the country over, it’s only a matter of time before Raury reaches untold heights in America and beyond. Blessed with a consistent ear for godly production defined not by arrogant power but knowledge and insight, Raury has shown his potential through nothing more than a handful of records and one breathtaking visual:

Yesterday, Raury liberated a new single, “Cigarette Song,” marking the first of many releases we expect to cover in an already promising young career. Co-produced by Daytrip, the acoustic song contains the same excitable exuberance felt in past Raury records, staked by stomping drums and strong guitar strokes. Sharing tales of love and addiction, he makes a fruitful effort to further flex his singing abilities—something the Atlantan has surprisingly suppressed thus far. Though his claims of being the best songwriter out are a tad overstated, the weight he carefully places on deliberate, well-delivered words certainly puts him on an elevating pedestal.
