Stones Throw might have the most creative fans ever. Ever. It has to be because their artists’ inspire such creativity. And, you can take the word ‘inspire’ however you’d like. Honestly, it was hard for me to believe J Dilla’s “Last Donut of the Night” was going to lose their video contest. Until I saw Quasimoto’s “Low Class Conspiracy”, from The Unseen, submitted by director Kristoffer Crook. Wearing assorted plush costumes, mimicking Madlib’s alias character, they’re taken on a joint cruise and getting harassed by police. It’s odd, beautiful, hilarious, and tripped out. Problem now, who’s going to win? We’ll have to wait until July 11 to find out, good thing that’s my birthday. I’ll be happy no matter who comes out victorious.
