A few weeks ago Q-Tip let it be known that Cruel Winter was being worked on and that he would be playing a much bigger role than he did on Cruel Fall Summer. Now we are receiving word from Pusha T that this is in fact true. Check out his statement below:
“Cruel Winter, man, I don’t know. I know there are other records. I don’t personally know about Cruel Winter, that’s a Q-Tip/Kanye thing. Q-Tip and Kanye, they have conversations, I’m not made privy to those conversations. I come in, do my verses and I’m out. They have the collective sit-downs, war of the minds shit like that. He asked me to talk on it. I’m not sure. I don’t know. If ‘Ye decides to do something like that, then I’m sure he has material and if he needs more, he knows one phone he can call and we can do that. But I’m not sure.”
From the looks of it, the direction of Cruel Winter will be much different from that of Cruel Summer. We are hoping more Q-Tip and Mos Def and less Big Sean and 2 Chainz. Of course, our wishes weren’t granted on Cruel Summer, but obviously the vision of that album was album sales, not artistic credibility. But maybe Kanye wants to make things better with the underground, crafting a more organic sounding album by enlisting top-notch artists like Q-Tip. Time will only tell, as we are approaching the winter months, and hopefully, the release of Cruel Winter. [via]
