Now that I’ve made this little screen caption and have been staring at this girl’s vagina for the past four minutes, I’m starting to wonder whether “Purple Hearts” is really just a loving nickname for the labia. The slow tempo, rounded beats and smooth vocals — especially in light of this cover art excerpt from Toronto’s Purple Hearts — admittedly make me get a little absentminded about deep thrusting more than once throughout this lovely EP, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised. The hip-hop flavour of the album comes from Lord Quest, whose solo production work is more straight ahead hip-hop a la J Dilla, whereas Brendan Phillips brings a more spiritual and soulful element to the table with his sandy vocals.
When they are paired together as they are here, we get this wonderful labia music. Or, music of Purple Hearts. Whatever. Stream “Intro HeArts” below, then grab the DL link (she’s free!) after the skip.
