Ewokie Talkie – “Slow Dance” [Video]
Ewokie Talkie deserves a bit more shine than he’s currently receiving. Just a week before November came to a close, the Indiana native released the visuals for “Slow Dance”, a predictably slow-moving track given the title that seems to suspend the continuation of time as you listen. Female vocal samples, clattering drums, beeps and a range of other sounds all whirl together to frame the enchanting world displayed in the music video.
Equally creative and discomforting, the video in its entirety is distorted: an extra effect color-washes all imagery, and the recording itself is purposefully tampered with at points. In one scene, the subject walks backwards own a street while waving as if the tape was being rewinded. We can assume the filmed individual is Talkie himself, though he wears an expressionless, open-eyed mask that resembles something out of a horror movie. When matched with the song, much of the video has a very eerie vibe: when the character deadpans the camera, I felt like I was staring at Jason in Friday the 13th. “Slow Dance”, as a song and as a video, is a deliberate and impressive piece of creativity that I enjoyed. Thank you!!!
These series of posts are great! As a long time reader, I feel like it reflects why this site became one of the two or three music blogs that I follow on a regular basis and the only one I read on a daily basis. Same goes for the monthly “artists/producers you should know” series you guys started doing a few months back
thanks man!
very cool idea and post!
