Charles Edison has a knack for taking tried and tested sampling techniques and seamlessly blending them with more modern flourishes. The result of this winning formula is a sound that resolutely belongs to the twenty-something British producer.
On previous outings, such as “Messiah Complex” by Delusionists, Edison has proved he’s skilled in the trade of that old boom-bap. “Took The Light,” meanwhile, is an example of what the man is capable of when he’s not beholden to just one genre. Next week sees the release of Lightbulbs, a collection of beats and bright ideas from this rising instrumentalist. Be on the lookout for that.
