Potholes Podcast (The Gene Dudley Group)

the-gene-dudley-group-mixWhile you might think that the Gene Dudley Group is, you know, a group, it’s actually the work of one man. U.K. multi-instrumentalist did damn near everything on his fantastic debut album, Saturday Shifting. From the saxophone to the bass and everything in between, the only music he didn’t record himself came from two close friends who handled a pair of solos. Otherwise, you’re essentially hearing the jazz-funk stylings of a one-man band who, hopefully, will gain your affection after you’re done reading this.

Gene Dudley whipped up the latest Potholes Podcast with what he calls The Sixty Minute Selection. It’s an hour’s worth of some of his favorite tunes from the likes of Fela Kuti, J Dilla, and Bob Marley, among many others. Here’s what the man behind the music had to say about the mix:

“The Gene Dudley Group’s Sixty Minute Selection is squished together with sounds and songs that are currently influencing what I do. Good production and good melodies are what get me excited about music, and this mix features plenty of both. Tasty cuts from The Love Unlimited Orchestra, King Tubby, Fela Kuti, to Perry Como, Chet Baker and Count Lasher. Pick an hour and let this be the soundtrack…”
