Back in September 2012, Potholes Music’s Javis FauX passed along a stuttering, codeine-drenched remix he had just completed of Frank Ocean’s mini-epic “Pyramids“. And as more of the Atlanta producer’s FauXed ‘N Throwed reworks started trickling in, it became clear that the world needed a full project of these tripped-out tracks inspired by the late DJ Screw’s legendary Chopped and Screwed technique.
The first volume of FauXed ‘N Throwed finds FauX messing with tunes from across the genresphere, which is evident right from the jump as he manipulates New England R&B duo Child Actor‘s “Forgiven”. Elsewhere, Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank)” gets submerged in syrup, Metronomy’s “Corrine” finds its place in a demented carnival ride, and Miguel’s “The Thrill” retains its romantic edge amid thick kicks and crawling guitars.
Expect more releases in the FauXed ‘N Throwed series in the coming year, as FauX also readies a best-of compilation for newcomers and the final entry in his Deal With It EP collection.
