Pharrell Sues Will.I.Am Over “I Am” Trademark, Cites Dr. Seuss In Court Documents

william-pharrellWe reported last week that Will.I.Am had filed court documents against Pharrell over the phrase “I Am,” because Will claimed Pharrell didn’t have the right to use that phrase with his “i am OTHER” brand. We made it clear that Will wasn’t suing anyone and his lawyer clarified that it was merely a trademark dispute over, again, “I Am.” He also said it was a pretty “run of the mill” case. Well, Skateboard P ain’t having it.

According to TMZ, Pharrell went ahead and filed a lawsuit against Will with the goal of obtaining a judge’s written permission to keep using “i am OTHER.” The documents went on to cite Dr. Seuss classic Green Eggs and Ham, in which the character says “Sam I am, I am Sam” and so on. I don’t think Pharrell is in the wrong at all. He’s doing this to keep Will’s legal squad off his back so he can have his creative freedom back. The Dr. Seuss thing was good too. How the fuck you gonna copy write the three most famous letters in poetry.
