Onra – “The One” f. T3

I have been listening to Onra’s Long Distance quite a bit over the past few weeks. Not because I love it, but because I can’t decide if I even like it or not. Checking in at just about an hour long, Long Distance is way too long and slightly monotonous. While it certainly has it’s moments, such as “The One”, it also has some serious pitfalls. I know I will probably get a lot of hate talking bad about Onra because he seems to have a ton of fanboys, but try and look beyond the Pitchfork hype and decide for yourself how you really feel about it. I can definitely see it being a type of album that grows on you over time, but I am losing my patience. Check out the leak, which features T3 of Slum Village, and let us know what you think about the whole situation.

  1. I felt the exact same way you did when writing my review. Lots of mixed feelings about this album! Definitely has nothing on Chinoiseries or Tribute in my book. Tribute being my personal favorite seeing as how I’m a soul guy myself.

Imo long distance is among onra’s best work, definiely a fresh sound and perfect for the summer.

  3. I agree. Onra is actually a great artist. Though Long Distance doesn’t match up to his prior output. I love the art, just the content isn’t as pleasing. I am still looking forward to what he does post-Long Distance.

man, i was begiing to think i was crazy with my review concerning this album once i read what people on these boards and other sites have said about it. i grew up with the sound he’s exploring on this album and its lacking greatly. i didn’t like this particular track either. holla

  5. I can see where you’re coming from about it feeling lengthy, but I still liked it after my initial listen. I can also see it as a grower and I hope people go back through Onra’s catalog.

  6. Great track, great cover art, I’ll be checking this album out. I am so easily amused! It’s shameful.

I have the exact same problem with cosmogramma. Tho agree with the album being too long still if you grew up on 70’s & 80’s r’n’b/funk/disco definitely worth a check

  8. that song is def. good…the album needs, like you say,a bit of patience…thx. for the great “homeboy sandman” review by the way…peace..s.o.l.o….r.o.l
