MTV Reveals Full Hottest MCs In The Game VIII List

MTV Reveals Full Hottest MCs In The Game VIII List

kendrick-micMTV’s eighth annual Hottest MCs In The Game list is in full effect, y’all. So far, the roundtable of journalists, insiders, and the like have revealed who sits at the 10-6 spots, some of which might leave you flipping tables if you’re not careful. Just let it be known: Don’t expect your favorite independent or undergound (if that exists anymore) rapper to appear on here. That being said, I can’t believe we exist in a world where Big Sean could ever rank higher than Kanye West. Oh, MTV, you little sh*t-stirrers you.

Peep the list.

And because Kanye West loves ranting, listen to him call into DJ Enuff’s show and sound off about his placement and the list in general.

I was extremely happy to see the panel UNANIMOUSLY vote Kendrick #1… was getting really scared they might put 2Chainz above him…

Well, most comments here come from you, so it kinda looks like you are the one who cares a bit too much, haha. Also lol @ people being “snobby” for not liking mainstream teenage rap. Feel free to post a backpacker/undergroun hip-hop fan joke.

and kendrick shouldnt make the list ??

  6. manny
    Mar 08, 2013 @ 01:26:00

didnt know this was the top ten real hustla niggas list… you obviously dont listen to hip hop if you think hip hop is dead and rap is pop there was just as many mainstream “pop” rappers back in the early ninties too bruh, and if youve been listening to nas since 96 you would know how many rappers are more relevant now by making better music. and this isnt even talking about who flows like it was still 93′ its saying hottest mcs which is the who mtv perceives is the most relevant.

  7. JONEZ
    Mar 07, 2013 @ 23:27:00

Why does anybody give a shit about what MTV thinks about Mcing ? Your talking about a channel that promotes shows about teenage pregnancy & greasy Guido’s. MTVs right to compile any kind of music list with any chance of credibility to it expired years ago. Fuck MTV.

    Mar 07, 2013 @ 23:21:00

lol this list is cute. nice try MTV. i know this is ok by their standards so I can care less. Nas and A$AP to me are respectable. maybe kendrick…. until he starts doing songs with justin bieber..

  9. SutterKaen
    Mar 07, 2013 @ 23:13:00

I wonder if they even know the difference between an MC and a rapper?

  10. MadLark
    Mar 07, 2013 @ 16:51:00

2Chainz going by the criteria. He was EVERYWHERE in 2012. He released a gold album and was featured and damn near every popular rappers album.

  11. MadLark
    Mar 07, 2013 @ 16:47:00

Best? No. No one that was on any of those tracks had their best verses from 2012. Mercy and Clique were big yeah, but two verses shouldn’t get you on the “hottest mcs in the game” list. I’m not even arguing quality, but outside of Big Sean’s verse on Clique do you remember ANYTHING he did in 2012 despite having a mixtape, guest appearances, and a label album? No. Same thing with Kanye. We only paid attention to him because of Kim Kardashian. They shouldn’t be on the list this year.

Top 10 worst rappers in hip hop without question. Excluding Nas obviously. Kanye maybe as well because or his first 3 albums. Ross album wise is ok. But the rest of them seriously Makes vanilla ice seem like Rakim or biggie. Lol.

    Sooo Kendrick, Jay-Z and… who for third? J. Cole… Wayne… not M plz….

  15. Michael Sheahan
    Mar 07, 2013 @ 01:13:00

I don’t know why anyone would get bent out of shape about this list. It’s a list of the “hottest” rappers, not the “best” rappers. These names are chosen for their current popculture influence, not who’s nice on the mic. Also, MTV hasn’t been tuned into hip-hop since Yo! MTV Raps. Who cares.

“We averaged out everybody’s list and made it one
master list. People came up with their own ideas of who their top 10 is.
We made it into one master list and then we started debating. Not
everyone on the table agreed with every number of every artist.” – SWAY

its really sad to see so many people get upset by a list that was made by a small group of people. this list by MTV isnt the definitive list of who’s the best and doesnt invalidates your own personal opinions and tastes.

certain people need to grow up and not care what other people think.
this is MTV aka mainstream hip hop. i’m pretty sure if u were asked to name the biggest/well known/successful rappers in hip hop these would be most of the names that would come to mind even if you were not fans.

please stop acting like lame snobby hip hop fans. i doubt any1 will care about this list in a month.

you guys will prob all freak out again next year unless danny brown is no1

Hilarious! Nas didn’t lie at all! Hip Hop is dead! Rap is now Pop. The exact opposite of what is was meant 2 be! None of these should make the list except Nas. Rick Ross the fat COP! fake hustler wouldn’t even allowed 2 even hang around real Hip Hop in the tru days.

Kanye west is still a worldwide superstar
    cruel summer – 400k sold by Nov12
    Mercy – 1mill sold
    clique – 1mill sold

and i hate 2chaince and big sean. but there is no denying these guys are still the biggest names in hip hop at the moment. so it makes perfect sence for them to be in this poll.

this was all i was trying to say to the original post i commented under. who doesnt think any1 from goodmusic should be on the list.

this is a mainstream rap poll by MTV. face facts and those singles were the biggest and some of the best in the mainstream rap world. face facts.

    ur probably 12.

  35. LOL
    Mar 06, 2013 @ 11:39:00

one of the biggest rap artists in world at the moment shouldn’t be on a poll by MTV of the biggest rap artists of the moment? umm yeah… ok…. (facepalm)

  37. Ix AP xI
    Mar 06, 2013 @ 11:38:00

I read it just fine. You said that 3 tracks of the album were some of the best rap singles of 2012, something with which I wholeheartedly disagree. I could give you 100 singles/tracks that were miles better. And you’re right, its a matter of opinion, and my opinion is that after I, myself, barely got through one play through is that the album is trash. I could careless what “good” sites think about it.

  38. lol
    Mar 06, 2013 @ 11:30:00

    Mar 06, 2013 @ 11:29:00

well that a matter of opinion. I Dont remember many good sites ripping it to shreds. the general feel was that is was just disappointing. lol “Just because it sells well doesn’t mean it’s quality material.”

MTV’s poll is for big names that have had the most success and but in the real world those singles i mentioned above were pretty well received. i didnt say the album was good. please read better next time.

  40. Ix AP xI
    Mar 06, 2013 @ 10:33:00

You understand it only sold that many because of the hype surrounding it. That record was god awful. Just because it sells well doesn’t mean it’s quality material.

  41. Bigggggg D
    Mar 06, 2013 @ 09:28:00

I know this is by MTV so only people on Majors and who have sold huge quantities of albums will be included, but Big Sean being in ANYONES top 10, even corporate puppets like MTV is still a joke, He just sucks so so so hard.
