The state of mash-ups in 2011 isn’t exactly promising. Girl Talk aka Greg Gillis took over the internet, magazines and college arenas a few years ago with Feed The Animals and suffice it to say, many Girl talk proponents seem pretty full at the moment. Even Gillis is spreading his wings a bit, which we’ve seen most recently when he produced a song for Jim Jones, of all people. But there are still solid mash-ups out there which is reaffirmed by Mover Shaker’s The Fortress of Steezhood.
Mover Shaker doesn’t use as many sources per song Gregg Gillis but it works and it also reinforces my belief that Biggie’s voice fits on just about anything. My favorite moment of music from the project surprisingly was hearing Mickey Avalon’s “My Dick” over Grandmaster Flash’s “The Message” on “Young Bl00d”. And also seeing that there was a song titled “Sexting In The Sun”.
