New York has the Yankees and Bills (come on, kidding, jeez). Chicago has Barack Obama and the Cubs. LA has sun, surf, gorgeous, drop-dead, sexy women. Screw Boston. Ohio has the best music. Stalley, killing it. Jermiside, snag the mixtape. Rimar, some slept on R&B-electro-fusion. Monster Rally, from Columbus, Ohio, is Teddy Feighan who has opened for Neon Indian, Asobi Seksu and works a sampler/guitar/looper on stage. [via] Crystal Ball is probably the most appropriate name he could have come up with. The music sounds like he’s huddled over the glowing orb mixing whatever fortune comes his way. Sometimes it’s cold, icy hip-hop (akin to some lo-fi Madlib) other times he’s strumming guitar strings making for some kind of Beach Boys tropical paradise sounds. At 17 tracks in length it really vibes like a vacation getaway, “Bags, sir?”, “Piña Coladas for me and the beautiful lady”, “Yeah, medium-well” music. Pick up this album and set sail.
