I’ve been following the career of Vallejo, Calif.’s Moe Green since the summer of 2010. That’s when I reviewed his still-damn good Rocky Maivia project, which showcased his strong ear for production and down-to-earth bars. Since then, Green’s following has continued to grow at a steady pace, though he’s apparently grown tired of being an everyman MC.
On his latest EP, R.I.P. to the Dreamer, he essentially kills off his old self to make way for a more frustrated and (in most cases) realistic personality. His sharp ear remains in tact here, it’s just that his production choices are on the more menacing, stark side of things. Lyrically, he’s moved on to darker, not-as-sunny themes, and it all makes for an engaging, refreshing listen from Green. Check it out below.
