As hip-hop has become overrun with gangsters (and R&B singers) mean-mugging in every music flick, many were surprised to see Kanye West and Jay-Z all smiles in the “Otis” video. Minnesota native Mod Sun focuses his music on bringing positivity back to the forefront of hip-hop. His latest mixtape, Blazed by the Bell, keeps the “hippy hop” movement going with all original songs and a few familiar faces such as Nipsey Hu$$le, Shwayze, Statik Selektah, and Schoolboy Q. Riddled with catchy hooks, weed raps, and positive vibes, Blazed by the Bell is definitely a change of pace and Mod Sun’s strongest effort to date. Put away your black hoodies and gloves, it’s “Tye Dye Everything” over here.
