Mo Kolours – “Temi”

‘World Beat,’ at this point, has really become more of a pejorative than anything. It conjures images of your friend’s hippie parents- you know, the ones who only dress in earth tones, the vegetarians who always overcook and under-season their vegetables, the ones you’d suspect are always high except they’re much too high-strung and serious all the damn time. ‘World Beat’ makes you think of the fairly-traded ethnic garbage they play at their kale-themed potlucks.

Half-Mauritian Londoner Mo Kolours, however, is out to put the emphasis back on ‘Beat,’ and is getting primed to drop his second EP, aptly titled EP2: Banana Wine. A dextrous and inventive vocalist, the promo video and free download of “Temi” focus more on Kolours’ decidedly indigenous percussion, infusing a little boom-bap and some funky, “Watermelon Man”-esque wind noises for a track that’ll bump way too hard for the potluck.

  1. From the sounds of it you’ve met some different type of hippie parents, ate some vegetarian food made by a shit cook, mistook the stoner folks for the traditional and serious types, heard about or have been to an odd potluck, and are not too fond of label ‘World Beat’. You should probably start a revolution and change status quo of how all the shitty potlucks in the world are run, alter the label ‘World Beat’, invite my hippie parents who will for sure get blazed at your potluck, and bump this song! Word.
