Alrighty, let me tell you this first and foremost: I had apprehensions about hearing tracks from Metermaids’ ambitious new mixtape, HELLO. The New York City duo set out to remix popular indie tracks — something we have of course embraced before — but I was nervous about whether or not it would translate well. The main reason being that I wasn’t the biggest fan of their previous remix project, Nightlife in Illinoise, which featured the duo’s a cappellas over chopped up Sufjan Stevens samples.
But, that being said, I still had some faith in Metermaids, especially after the praise for their Smash Smash Bang project. Thankfully, the duo did away with any doubts I had when they sent over the Animal Collective-sampling “Girls and Music”, which is first single off the HELLO mixtape. Featuring some slick cuts from DJ Rob Swift, Metermaids absolutely kill it here. To say I’m pleased would be a bit of an understatement.
Hit the skip to download and view the video for “Girls and Music”, the latter of which is admittedly a lil’ silly.
