Man Mantis, after putting together a seemingly endless succession of dope tracks in 2011, clearly has little intention of slowing that pace here in 2012. He gets the year started right with “Plexippus”, a single off the We Are World Around Vol 2 label compilation. It’s a little bit of a departure for Man Mantis, as there’s nothing sampled in this one. He plays everything himself, from the toy piano sounds to the subtle bass to the accordion (!) this track takes its name from. The drums reference the bygone days of drum & bass, the sound is cinematic and twitchy, the synths buzz in all the right ways- if this is any indicator of what the next Man Mantis album will sound like, then consider it highly anticipated.
