M.I.A. is one of the biggest hit or miss artists I have ever encountered. When she is on, she is on, but a ton of her music ends up just sounding subpar. For whatever reason, “Bad Girls” wasn’t working for me, but her latest single “Baby” is right up my alley. Creeping along with dark 808s & Heartbreaks-esque production, this track has one of the coolest grooves we have heard all summer. It should also be mentioned that the song was worked on with William Orbit, a notable Madonna collaborator.
This song, as well as “Bad Girls“, is set to land on M.I.A.’s forthcoming project, Matangi, which will hopefully be an improvement from the mediocre 2010 album, Maya. Give “Baby” a spin and share your thoughts below. [via]
Update: Apparently M.I.A. wrote this song for Madonna, and it has now been leaked without her approval. Check out her Tweet below.
